Mop up and repair work is nearing completion on the Dixon Fire.
An update said crews continued to further secure the perimeter of the fire early Monday, searching through burned areas for any remaining heat and eliminating fuel pockets.
Along the northwest portion of the fire, mop up has been largely completed, and monitoring and patrol are underway. Along the southeast perimeter, crews have completed the bulk of mop up, heavy equipment work and felling of hazard trees. On the eastern flank, crews continued final mop up, including checking for heat near structures.
Tuesday, crews concentrated on improving line security through mop up along the southeast edges of the fire. Firefighters continue patrolling along the northern perimeter. Repair of any damage to soil, water and other resources affected by suppression operations is also occurring.
The update said many areas of the fire are now meeting or nearly achieving the mop up standards of local agencies. When the mop up standard is met around the entire fire perimeter, the fire will be well with the management capabilities of the local Type 4 organization that will take it over. With suppression and repair efforts on or ahead of schedule, the fire will transition to the Type 4 organization Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
