Roseburg Police jailed a man following a DUII crash involving a vehicle versus an electric scooter early Tuesday morning.

An RPD report said just after 12:45 a.m. officers responded to the crash in the 300 block of West Harvard Avenue. When they arrived, 52-year-old Daniel Lutton of Sweet Home was irate about the victim hitting his vehicle while on the scooter.

Lutton told officers he was driving eastbound on West Harvard, missed the entrance of a business, stopped, waited for traffic to clear, then executed a “U-Turn” at West Mardone Street. He ended up doing a 270-degree turn facing south and tried pulling into the hotel parking lot. The victim was traveling eastbound on West Harvard in the bike lane, when the other driver continued forward into the bike lane and stopped. The victim collided with the passenger side of the car and landed on the hood.

He was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center with a possible broken foot. Officers noticed that Lutton had numerous signs of impairment. He consented to standard field sobriety tests and reportedly performed poorly. Lutton was taken to jail and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, and fourth-degree assault. He was cited for driving while suspended, driving uninsured and failure to install at ignition interlock device. Lutton was detained without bail.
