Saturday at approximately 2:40 p.m., crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and over a dozen other agencies responded to a reported fire in the 28000 block of Tiller Trail Highway in the Tiller area.
DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said upon arrival at the scene, an estimated 50-acre fast-moving and quickly growing fire was located in brush and light fuels and a fully engulfed barn was found. Pope said responding crews acted immediately with suppression and structure protection. Due to wind and extreme fire activity, this rapidly growing fire was estimated to be between 1,000 and 1,500 acres as of Saturday evening.
A Level 3 GO NOW, evacuation was activated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and fire managers. As 0f 7:00 p.m. Friday Level 3 evacuations are in place for all residents of Crume Ranch Lane and Devil’s Knob in the Tiller and Drew area. Check for updated evacuation at www.dcso.com
Douglas County Emergency Management and DCSO, in coordination with the American Red Cross have set up an emergency evacuation shelter at Canyonville School, on North Main Street in Canyonville.
Saturday night, Governor Tina Kotek invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for the Tiller Trail Fire. The Oregon State Fire Marshal has activated is Green Incident Management Team and three structural task forces. Saturday afternoon, OSFM mobilized a structural task force from the Rogue Valley.
