HOMESTEAD COMPLEX GROWS SLIGHTLY, CONTAINMENT AT 14 PERCENT

August 11, 2024 9:45 a.m.

The seven fires making up the Homestead Complex, burning in the Umpqua National Forest, have grown slightly to 3,841 acres, with containment remaining at 14 percent.

A UNF update said Saturday on the 1,465-acre No Man and 239-acre Salmon 33 fires, crews and heavy equipment continued primary and indirect line construction along the south side of No Man and the west side of Salmon 33. To the northern side of those fires, crews focused on securing line with indirect firing operations from dozer line to the road system and the division break west of No Man and got within 300 feet of their objective as the fire held inside control lines. Night shift then completed the task at around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.

On the 1,096-acre Horse Heaven Creek Fire, heavy equipment was brought in from other areas of the complex to focus on road prep and contingency line construction as the fire continued to move north and east. Smoke continues to cause major visibility issues in this area. The 295-acre Fuller Lake Fire continued backing down to the 5851 Road on the east side of Fuller Lake. Firefighters used UTV’s on the 389-acre Bullpup Fire to scout east of the 300 Road area for the expected fire growth toward that control line. Strengthening of the control lines and tree falling operations continue on this fire.

An approximately 8-degree temperature drop is projected for Monday and the next few days.
