Sutherlin Police jailed a man following a hit and run incident on Tuesday night.
An SPD report said at 8:30 p.m. 37-year-old Nathan Baker was called in after allegedly driving through private residential property, damaging a gate, and then driving off. This took place near the intersection of Valentine Avenue and South Calapooia Street.
An officer located Baker driving down State Street and initiated a traffic stop. Baker was under the influence and refused to perform standard field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody and placed in a patrol vehicle. Baker later slipped the seat belt and began what the report called, “a complete tirade” in the back seat, allegedly kicking doors and interior panels, as well as urinating on the floorboard. Baker was secured again with help from other units.
Baker was taken to jail where he remained uncooperative. A search warrant was applied for and granted. Evidence was seized at CHI Mercy Medical Center, where the man reportedly continued to resist.
Baker was charged with DUII alcohol, failure to perform the duties of a driver/property damage, reckless driving, second-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was detained on $35,000 bail. Baker was released on Wednesday.
