A Roseburg man was jailed for second-degree assault by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office following a Tuesday night incident.
A DCSO report said just before 9:40 p.m. a victim decided to mow the driveway leading to another residence which he typically does. This was in the 500 block of Dairy Loop Road in the Lookingglass area. Another man saw the victim mowing and didn’t want him to do so. The second man told a third man to get the victim to stop mowing and handed him a mag light style flashlight. The 62-year-old shined the flashlight toward the victim and told him to stop mowing.
The victim followed the other man into the driveway and exited the lawnmower to the left, with the other man on the right. The 62-year-old reportedly hit the victim over the head with the flashlight, causing the victim to be dazed. As the victim began to regain consciousness, he leaned to the right, still on top of the lawnmower. The suspect once again allegedly struck the victim in the head with the flashlight, causing him to fall to the ground.
The victim was taken by private vehicle to CHI Mercy Medical Center, and lost consciousness on the way. The suspect was taken into custody and detained without bail.
