COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO RECOGNIZE NATIONAL COAST GUARD DAY

August 6, 2024 3:30 a.m.

Douglas County Commissioners Chris Boice, Tim Freeman and Tom Kress will be issuing a proclamation recognizing National Coast Guard Day at a presentation on Wednesday at 12:00 pm.

This is during the week of the USCGs 234th birthday.

A county release said the presentation will take place at the Umpqua River Lighthouse in Winchester Bay. The community as well as any and all Coast Guardsmen – active and retired – are invited to attend. Air Station North Bend is including a fly-over in their flight schedule and it’s expected to take place at 12:00 p.m. to kick off the festivities.

Commissioners will present Coast Guardsmen serving at the USCG Station Umpqua River and the USCG Air Sector North Bend with a certificate of the proclamation recognizing the extraordinary work they do, day in and day out, to defend and preserve the coastline and homeland.

Immediately following the presentation, the commissioners will be recognizing National Lighthouse Week and attendees are invited to stay for light refreshments provided by the Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum Gift Shop and Café.

Commissioners will be recognizing the role the staff, volunteers, and museum board members play in the care and preservation of the lighthouse, making it a destination for both tourists and locals along the county’s stretch of coastline.
