On Sunday, Oregon lawmakers responded to President Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 presidential race.
In statements to News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN:
Senator Ron Wyden said, “I’ve been proud to work with President Biden on a record of Democratic successes these past 3 1/2 years that includes historic wins over Big Pharma, and major gains in the fights against both wealthy tax cheats and the climate crisis”. Wyden said, “I’m all in to support Vice President Harris with all my energy to go forward building on that impressive record…”.
Senator Jeff Merkley said, “No president in my lifetime has done more than Joe Biden. He’s achieved historic successes in investments in American manufacturing, renewable energy and infrastructure, strengthened our security and repaired relationships around the world”. Merkley said, “This election is between democracy and autocracy. I stand with a vision that commits to strengthening all American’s well-being”
State Senator David Brock Smith said, “The Democrat elitists have forced out their own constituents elected nominee, and the Democrats say Republicans are the threat to Democracy! Ridiculous! We must continue to unite conservatives to win at the local level, state and federal levels across the country”.
State Representative Virgle Osborne said, “These are very interesting political times we live in. I think Joe Biden’s performance in the debate proved to the world that it was time for him to step out of the race”. Osborne said, “I wish Joe Biden well and hope that his health improves. I do believe he did the right thing by stepping down as the candidate”.
