The Douglas County Fairgrounds is launching a new program for this year’s fair in August.

Business and Administrative Coordinator Ciera Keith said losing track of a child at a large event, such as the fair, creates panic and fear for any parent. Keith said this year, in partnership with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Central Douglas Fire and Rescue, the fairgrounds are offering free wristbands that can be placed on children, with the phone number for a parent or guardian.

Keith said in the event a child is separated from their parent, fair staff and first responders can look at the wrist band and call the number quickly to reunite the child with the parent.

Wristbands can be picked up at the CDF&R booth near the main gate, or the DCSO booth in Douglas Hall.

Keith said in addition, when coming to the fair, parents are encouraged to dress their child in bright colors and to take a photo of them.

The Douglas County Fair will take place August 7th-10th.
