FATAL VEHICLE VERSUS PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT MONDAY AFTERNOON

July 8, 2024 5;00 p.m. (updated July 9, 2:00 p.m.)

Monday afternoon at approximately 3:00 p.m. Roseburg Police Department and emergency personnel responded to a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a commercial motor vehicle and trailer at the intersection of Southeast Stephens Street and Southeast Douglas Avenue.

Public Information Officer Sergeant Daniel Allen said the preliminary investigation revealed that the CMV, and trailer, operated by a 35-year-old man, were stopped at a red light, facing southbound. The driver proceeded through the crosswalk when his light turned green. Allen said the vehicles struck a female who was walking within the crosswalk.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Douglas County Medical Examiner. She has been identified as 59-year-old Linda Louise Stafford.

Allen said the driver was not injured and is cooperating with law enforcement.

RPD was assisted by Roseburg Fire Department, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
