RED FLAG WARNING SATURDAY, FIRE WEATHER WATCH SUNDAY

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday with a Fire Weather Watch in place from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sunday for the Umpqua Basin, western Rogue Basin, eastern Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said northwest winds will increase to 8 to 14 miles per hour with gusts as high as 22 miles per hour.

Residents should avoid tossing burning cigarettes on the ground, parking hot vehicles on dry vegetation and using equipment that can cause sparks. Follow all fire restrictions.

Those who have not packed an evacuation kit, should do so now. Vehicles should be filled with fuel.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. These conditions promote rapid spread of fire which may become life threatening.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible during the valid watch time. These conditions could promote the rapid spread of wildfires which could become life threatening.
