FLAG AND POLICE DEDICATED BY ROSEBURG LIONS- KEEP THE PROMISE DAYS

July 5, 2024 10:40 a.m.

On Tuesday, the Roseburg Lions Club raised the United States flag at the flagpole in the greenspace along Northeast Stephens Street in Roseburg, adjacent to the Public Safety Center.

A release from the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation said the project was started by Lion Craig Jackson in early 2023, with Lion David Hopkins joining to co-chair the effort later in the year. The final event was the culmination of many hours of work. The flag pole is in a park site that is also home to an Eagle carving. Tuesday’s ceremony started with a history of the project, the raising of the flag, the pledge of alliance and singing.

This “Keep the Promise” event is part of a series of KTP events throughout Oregon. The goal is to celebrate the Lion’s connect to Helen Keller and their promise to address preventable blindness and hearing loss, in partnership with their Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation.

Attending the flag pole dedication were County Commissioners Tim Freeman and Chris Boice, County Clerk Daniel Loomis, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Indians Veteran Service Officer Matthew Case, Roxana Fulton from the Winston Teen Center as well as members of the Lions Club and friends. The flag pole was purchased with funds from the club and a donation of a sign by Umpqua Signs and Graphics.
