Covering coastal Douglas County:

A Medford man was jailed following an alleged disorderly conduct and menacing incident early Thursday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 12:30 a.m., 38-year-old Bryson Kampstra, who was allegedly intoxicated, became upset by noise being made by other campers in Sparrow Park at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation area near Reedsport. Kampstra reportedly told everyone that it was time for bed, before discharging his 9 mm handgun into the air.

Prior to this, Kampstra allegedly pulled back his jacket to reveal the firearm to another camper, seemingly an effort to intimidate the other person.

Deputies responded to the area and spent 2.5 hours trying to talk Kampstra out of his tent. He finally emerged and was taken into custody. The suspect did not provide an explanation for his actions.

Kampstra was charged with second-degree disorderly conduct and four counts of menacing. He was detained without bail.
