July 4, 2024 6:30 a.m.

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in place for much of the region through Monday night at 9:00 p.m.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said high temperatures of 105 to 110 degrees are expected. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 60s.

The Warning area includes central Douglas County and its eastern foothills. This includes the cities of Roseburg, Sutherlin and Toketee Falls.

Forecasters said heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Area rivers will be cold and can cause shock to swimmers.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke are seen.
