July 3, 2024 2:50 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for central Douglas County and its eastern foothills, including Roseburg, Sutherlin and Toketee Falls.

It is in effect from 8:00 a.m. Thursday through 9:00 p.m. Monday.

Forecasters said high temperatures between 105 degrees and 110 degrees are expected. Low temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s over multiple days.

An Urgent Weather Message said heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Area rivers will be cold and can cause shock to swimmers.

Residents should take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose- fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke are seen.
