PARTNER SPORTS CAMP NEEDS VOLUNTEERS THIS SUMMER

The Douglas ESD and YMCA Partner Sports Camp is looking for volunteers this summer from July 8-18.

The annual summer camp pairs students with and without disabilities to participate in sports and camping activities. Cindy Rohver is a Special Education Coordinator with Douglas ESD and says partners are still needed for this year’s camp.

If you are interested, you can contact Rohver through the Douglas ESD website.

“I will send them a link and get their information and they can be a partner,” Rohver said.

The camp begins each day at the YMCA and Rohver says there are numerous activities and trips planned.

“We do have a couple of field trips. One day we go hiking and on another couple of days we go fishing,” Rohver said. “We got out to bowman’s pond. It’s an accessible pond. It’s got a paved walkway around it with guardrails. So, kids with different physical abilities can participate.”

Rohver says the camp is offered at no cost to the campers and partners.

“We provide snacks, we provide lunch. We give everyone t-shirts, draw string bags and water bottles. All the sporting equipment or gaming equipment that we need is provided. If a youth needs transportation, we provide transportation from their home school,” Rohver said.
