An Eagle Point man died in a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Highway 230 about thirteen miles from Diamond Lake.
An Oregon State Police report said at 8:00 a.m. a southbound pickup, operated by 24-year-old Jason Michael Ettenberger of Portland, went off the southbound shoulder of the roadway on a lefthand turn. The driver apparently overcorrected back across the roadway before the vehicle rolled several times down an embankment and came to rest on its passenger side. During the rolling event the passenger in the pickup was ejected.
31-year-old Austin Cordell Belford was declared deceased at the scene. He did not appear to have worn a seatbelt during the crash. Ettenberger suffered injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
The highway was impacted for approximately 4.5 hours during the on-scene investigation. Speed and occupant safety regarding the seatbelt are considered the primary causes of the crash.
OSP was assisted by Diamond Lake Resort first responders, Umpqua Valley Ambulance and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
