In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:
To coincide with Graffiti Weekend, Umpqua Community College will present an outdoor concert, “The Day the Music Died” in the UCC Swanson Amphitheater from July 10th-14th at 7:30 p.m.
Created by UCC Music Professor Dr. Jason Heald and produced & directed by Theatre Arts Assistant Professor Bart McHenry, the show celebrates the era and artists of the plane crash that killed early rock and roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper, memorialized in Don McLean’s classic song, “American Pie”.
The show will include chair seating, bistro tables and a picnic area. Food will be available for purchase as well as wine from the Southern Oregon Wine Institute at $5 per glass.
General admission is $15 cash at the door. Seniors are admitted for $10 with students of all ages getting in for free.
