ROSEBURG POLICE JAIL MAN ON THIRD-DEGREE THEFT CHARGE

Roseburg Police jailed a man on the charge of third-degree theft on Wednesday.

An RPD report said at 12:30 p.m. the 48-year-old was contacted at a business in the 1300 block of Northeast Stephens Street. The man was wearing a backpack that was allegedly containing concealed merchandise.

As soon as the man saw an officer, he reportedly took the backpack off and attempted to hide it. Officers grabbed the backpack and contacted the man outside the business. The suspect said the backpack was not his and he consented to the officer searching it.

During the search, an officer found the concealed merchandise. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Bail was set at $1,250.
