Troopers with the Oregon State Police jailed a man following a freeway wreck late Sunday night.
An OSP report said just before 12:00 a.m. Monday a vehicle crashed into a van on Interstate Five northbound near the south Roseburg exit. Douglas County Fire District No.2 arrived on the scene prior to law enforcement. Crews observed the 20-year-old driver of the first vehicle as being intoxicated. Prior to performing the duties of a driver, that vehicle fled the scene. Approximately one mile away, OSP located the vehicle which had crashed along the road on Highway 99 South. The driver had fled the scene but was located approximately 100 yards away attempting to conceal himself.
After detaining him, troopers observed signs of impairment. The man was taken to corrections, where he consented to standard field sobriety tests. He refused to continue after he believed he was performing poorly. Additional signs of impairment were reportedly observed. The man was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and for failure to perform the duties of a driver with property damage. He was detained without bail.
