COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE JACK KNIFES, CLOSING HIGHWAY 38

May 31, 2024 2:30 p.m.

A commercial motor vehicle jack knifed, closing a section of Highway 38 Friday morning.

An Oregon State Police report said just after 6:30 a.m. troopers responded to the accident about 17 miles west of Elkton. The vehicle was westbound when the rear axle dropped into the ditch for an unknown reason. The trailer axle struck several large protruding rocks causing the trailer to become unstable. The vehicle started to lose its load of concrete pavers and became jack knifed in the middle of the roadway, completely disabled.

The Oregon Department of Transportation responded for traffic control. A tow company responded and recovered the tractor and trailer. No injuries were reported. Highway 38 was closed for about 5 hours while crews dealt with the accident.
