A number of Memorial Day ceremonies are happening on Monday in the Umpqua Valley.
*In Roseburg:
The annual tribute begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosburg National Cemetery on the VA campus. Douglas County Commissioner Tim Freeman, Dominic Amaral, archivist and historian for the Prisoner of War program in Washington D.C., and a representative from Congresswoman Val Hoyle’s office will speak at the event.
Roseburg Memorial Gardens and Wilsons Chapel of the Roses will have a ceremony at 2:00 p.m. at the memorial gardens on Northwest Hicks Street, just east of Interstate 5. It will include military honors, bugler and guest speakers. Food and refreshments will be provided.
*In Glide:
15th annual ceremony at the Glide Veterans Memorial, adjacent to the Glide Community Center will take place at 10:00 a.m. The event will honor the seven military veterans whose names are inscribed on the memorial wall. Sheriff John Hanlin is the guest of honor this year and will lay the memorial wreath at the monument. Other participants include the Douglas County Veterans Honor Guard, bagpiper Heidi Wood. Bugler Tony D’Agnese and Sarah Talcott who will sing the national anthem.
*In Sutherlin:
Sutherlin Lions will host a thirty-minute wreath laying ceremony at 9:00 a.m. at Central Park.
*In Myrtle Creek/Tri City:
Drive through Myrtle Creek and Tri City to see 200 American flags on display that have been placed by American Legion Post 123.
*In Reedsport:
Reedsport Masonic Cemetery, located at 3021 Longwood Drive will have a remembrance at 10:00 a.m. It will include a presentation of colors by the color guard, as well as a bugler playing taps and a moment of silence to pay tribute to fallen soldiers. American Legion Post 62 will honor local heroes laid to rest at the cemetery with wreath-laying and a rifle salute.
