May 24, 2024 3:05 a.m.

The Oregon State University Extension Service and Master Food Preservers are offering a workshop covering disaster preparedness next month.

An Extension release said it will be held June 20th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Elkton Community Education Center.

The meeting will help residents in the event of fires, heat waves, earthquakes and other potential disasters that are not fun to contemplate. Attendees will learn to devise plans for long-term power outages, bone up on safe food storage, water storage and purification methods, and waste disposal.

The workshop is designed to be a budget-friendly approach to empower residents to make incremental changes to protect themselves without excessive spending.
