Roseburg Police jailed a man Tuesday following an incident at a store.

An RPD report said at 10:30 a.m. 36-year-old Richard Aust was contacted outside Walmart in the 2100 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway. Aust had a number of warrants for his arrest and was a suspect in a theft at the store on Sunday. At that time, the man allegedly stole $284 worth of merchandise.

When officers contacted Aust, he reportedly provided a false name. Officers told the man he was under arrest, and he took off running. A taser was deployed causing Aust to fall. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Aust was charged with providing false information to police, second-degree theft, third-degree escape and for the warrants. Bail was set at $1 million.
