An investigation continues after a suspect crashed a vehicle on Interstate 5 Monday night and fled the scene.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 9:15 p.m. a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the northbound lanes of the freeway about two miles south of Sutherlin. The driver did not yield, and a pursuit ensued. The deputy chased the sedan northbound with speeds ranging between 100 and 120 miles per hour. The pursuit was terminated in the Oakland area.
About twenty minutes later, the vehicle was called in as crashed near Metz Hill. The report said it appeared the driver attempted to take a right turn onto Goodrich Road at a high rate of speed and the sedan crashed into the guard rail. The unknown driver took the steering wheel and locked it up. The driver has not been identified.
