SAVING GRACE PET ADOPTION CENTER WITH 3RD ANNUAL BARKS & RECREATION

May 14, 2024 2:50 a.m.

Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center will host the third annual Barks & Recreation event in Stewart Park this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Executive Director Jennifer Barta said the event is designed to celebrate the human-canine family bond with fun dog-related activities and raise funds for Saving Grace programs. Barta said the event is free to attend and well-behaved dogs on a leash are very welcome.

Barks & Recreation will feature something for everyone. Sponsored by First Community Credit Union, it includes over 30 pet friendly vendors, dog activities like pup-cups and bobbing for hot dogs, a wine and beer garden, food carts, kid’s activities, reduced-cost vaccinations, and microchips for dogs. Saving Grace will also bring several dogs available for adoption.

An Alumni Walk for dogs previously adopted from Saving Grace will start at 11:00 a.m. at the band shell. Dogs will receive a free bandana. Doggie contests will run from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. including Best Trick, Best Costume, Owner-Dog Lookalike and a Peanut Butter Eating contest as well. Contest registration is on the Saving Grace website. The event also features live music from Kyra Van Winkle from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In addition, Saving Grace has partnered with CHI Mercy Health to kick off the morning at 9:30 a.m. before the main event, with a 3 mile “Walk with a Doc” stroll. Participants are encouraged to walk with their dog, starting at the Stewart Park train, while they lean more about the benefits of having a dog as part of their family.
