The Fly-in-Pig Competition is happening Saturday and Sunday at the Myrtle Creek Municipal Airport.
It is sanctioned by the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association. Competitors pay an entry fee and are in three divisions – fire departments/first responders, pro teams/commercial, and backyard local bbq’ers giving it a go. Categories are brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and chicken.
Awards will have a minimum of a $10,000 total purse. There will be three places in each division, a people’s choice award, and a reserve and grand champion overall.
The event is open to the public with hours Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 10: 00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5. Children under age 12 get in for free. Several local craft outlets will have craft beer on sale at the event.
Sponsors include Myrtle Creek Grocery Outlet, the City of Myrtle Creek, Myrtle Creek-Tri City Area Chamber of Commerce and Taphouse.
The overall event sponsor is the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market of Myrtle Creek, with several supporting sponsors as well.
