May 7, 2024 3:40 a.m.

Ballots for the 2024 Douglas County May Primary Election went out last week and are beginning to be returned to the Office of the County Clerk.

Clerk Daniel Loomis has some reminders for voters:

*Ballots must be cast no later than 8:00 p.m. on May 21st

*Voters can use the U.S. Postal Service, or any official ballot drop site in Oregon, to cast their ballot

*Douglas County has fifteen official ballot drop sites including eight drive-up locations where ballots can be turned in

*Before turning in a ballot, voters should make sure they have reviewed and completed both sides of their ballot

*The voter statement on the ballot return envelope must be signed

Voters may obtain a replacement ballot if their original ballot was destroyed, spoiled, lost, or not received by the voter. Contact or visit the Douglas County Election Office for assistance.

As of late Monday, 0.34 percent or 300 ballots have been turned in. That lags 1.7 percent behind the participation rate for the same point in the previous 2020 Douglas County May Primary Election.

For comparison, the number of voters in the county has increased 8.43 percent, or 6,956 voters since the previous election in 2020.
