The YMCA of Douglas County is hosting its Healthy Kids Day on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The free community event features a variety of family friendly activities to encourage healthy kids, healthy families, and a healthy start to the summer season.

The YMCA release said summer season is water season in Douglas County. Each year, the YMCA has its Water Safety Spotlight as part of Healthy Kids Day. It is an opportunity to educate the community about water temperature, water safety rescue stations around the county and how to use them. 200 free life jackets will be given away. The YMCA aims to set up children and families for success as summer months approach with more play in and around the water.

Healthy Kids Day encourages families to learn more about and take advantage of all the great summer resources that the Y and its community partners have to offer. CEO Stephan Stanfield said, “Summer is a time for kids to stay active, explore and thrive. At the YMCA of Douglas County, we’re committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to lead a healthy and active lifestyle”. Stanfield said the event shines a spotlight on the importance of physical activity and wellness for youth. He said, “Together with our partners, we provide resources and activities that inspire kids to love, learn, and grow”.

Fun activities for the whole family include a helicopter landing at 9:00 a.m. sharp, bounce houses, snacks, games and over 30 community partners that will have activities and prizes focusing on healthy kids.
