CANDIDATES URGED TO FOLLOW CAMPAIGN SIGNS RULES

April 23, 9:30 a.m.

The City of Roseburg is urging candidates to follow campaign sign rules as the May Primary Election approaches.

That includes:

*Signs must not be placed on sidewalks or any other public right-of-way. That is generally the area from the street to the property line which can include the sidewalk, grass, and a planting strip.

*Signs should be no more than 32 square feet. The entire campaign message must be contained on one sign.

*Permission from the property owner is required to post signs on private property.

*Signs are not allowed on or within public parks, utility poles, bridges or other scenic areas, fences, trees or other publicly posted signs.

Signs found to be violating state law or city code will be removed and stored at the Roseburg Public Works Shop at 425 Northeast Fulton Street for 10 days to give owners time to collect. Otherwise, the signs will be discarded.

Residents who see campaign signs that were placed illegally should report them to the Public Works Department at: pwd@cityofroseburg.org or by calling 492-6730.

Campaign signs must be taken down by Friday, May 24th, just three days after the election.
