The YMCA of Douglas County is hosting its annual Healthy Kids Day on Saturday April 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The free community event features a variety of family friendly activities to encourage families and provide a healthy start to the summer season.

The YMCA release said that summer season is water season in Douglas County. Each year, the YMCA has its Water Safety Spotlight as part of Healthy Kids Day. It will be an opportunity to educate the community about water temperature, water safety rescue stations around the county and how to use them, plus over 200 free life jackets will be given away.

Healthy Kids Day encourages families to learn more about and take advantage of all the great summer resources that the Y and its community partners have to offer. CEO Steven Stanfield said, “Summer is a time for kids to stay active, explore and thrive. At the YMCA of Douglas County, we’re committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to lead a healthy and active lifestyle”. Stanfield said, “Our annual Healthy Kids Day event, a free community gathering, shines a spotlight on the importance of physical activity and wellness of our youth. Together with our partners, we provide resources and activities that inspire kids to move, learn and grow”.

Healthy Kids Day activities for the whole family include: a helicopter landing at 9:00 a.m. sharp, bounce houses, healthy snacks, games and over 30 community partners that will have activities and prizes focusing on healthy kids.
