Five people were hospitalized after a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 northbound near the Tri City-Riddle exit on Tuesday afternoon.

An Oregon State Police report said just after 4:20 p.m. the driver of a van had a medical condition which caused him to drive off the northbound shoulder resulting in a rollover wreck. After the van had come to rest, a sedan following it stopped and was rear ended by an SUV. The sedan then collided with a vehicle that was stopped on the northbound shoulder. Four occupants were transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. One person was transported by air ambulance to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford for treatment.

Northbound freeway traffic was stopped for a time while emergency medical personnel and law enforcement dealt with the accident. All four vehicles were towed from the scene.
