MYRTLE CREEK TO START FLUSHING OF FIRE HYDRANTS

March 29, 2024 3:20 a.m.

Public Works crews with the City of Myrtle Creek will start flushing the city’s fire hydrants on April 15th.

A City release said as part of normal system maintenance, it is necessary to periodically flush a water system by flowing water at a high velocity. Corrosion and low flows in pipelines can reduce water quality in the city’s system, making it necessary to periodically perform flushing from fire hydrants and other outlets.

Residents who notice flushing operations in their neighborhood, should restrict water usage as sediment from the flushing may be pulled into the home’s plumbing and sprinkler systems. After flushing, it is recommended that residents run water through an outside hose bib or bathtub for a short time prior to consuming water or washing clothes.
