SPORTS CAR EVADES CAPTURE EVEN AFTER CRASHING

A fast-moving sports car evaded police on Tuesday night, even after crashing.

An Oregon State Police report said around 7:30 p.m. a trooper running radar observed the dark in color, newer imported vehicle heading northbound on Interstate Five. When the trooper attempted to overtake the vehicle, the car sped away, passing vehicles on the median shoulder. A scanner report said the sports car was going 128 miles per hour. A traffic stop was not initiated at that time.

The sports car passed another trooper a short time later and erratically exited the freeway, immediately re-entering the freeway at the same interchange. Troopers lost sight of it, but several miles down the road, the Roseburg Police Department aired complaints of reckless driving through the city.

The report said a trooper later located the vehicle traveling at high speeds on the freeway again and attempted to stop it. The sports car eluded before crashing into a grassy area off the freeway. As the trooper was arriving at the crash scene, the vehicle was able to get unstuck and eluded again.

Sutherlin Police later located the vehicle, and it eluded that agency. No license plate number was obtained.

No further information was released by OSP.
