The United Community Action Network is set to open a warming center in response to the inclement weather.
Douglas County Housing and Homeless Services Program Manager Jacob Schlueter said the center will open Saturday night to bring people out of the cold and the expected elements.
UCAN Executive Director Shaun Pritchard said, “UCAN wants to thank our partners and volunteers who worked hard and trained with our staff in preparation of opening the warming center”.
The warming center is in the gymnasium of St. Joseph Catholic Church at 850 West Stanton Street in Roseburg. It will be staffed for an overnight stay which will include a hot meal earlier in the evening. The space will open for check-ins at 5:30 p.m. Check-out begins at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast and a snack provided.
Pritchard said, “We’re going to bring our homeless community out of the cold, ensure they have a hot meal, share programs to bring them out of homelessness and wrap the warmth of our caring community around them”.
Schlueter said the warming center can open when the low temperature is forecast to be 30 degrees or lower, or 32 degrees with inclement weather.
