WINTER STORM WARNING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY

February 28, 2024 3:50 a.m.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through 4:00 a.m. Friday for mountain areas of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said that heavy snow and blowing snow is expected. Total accumulations of 6 to 12 inches with 1 to 2 feet expected above 5,000 feet. Winds will gust as high as 60 miles per hour.

The Warning area includes the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. This applies to Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, Howard Prairie, Union Creek, Crescent Lake, Tennant and all passes including portions of Interstate 5 and highways 58, 138, 230, 62, 66, 97 and 140.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. One inch-per hour snowfall rates are expected in the Cascades between 4:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

Travel is strongly discouraged because of dangerous conditions.
