February 23, 2024 4:00 a.m.

A storm system is headed to the region Sunday night bringing a big change to the weather for the short-term.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service have issued a Winter Storm Watch for higher elevations from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon.

Heavy snow is possible with total accumulations of up to 12 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 miles-per-hour.

The Advisory area is for the eastern Douglas County foothills, south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. Travel could be very difficult to impossible.

Forecasters said snow levels could briefly drop down to around 2,000 feet Monday afternoon before snowfall amounts drop off.

Those traveling at higher elevations during that time should stock an emergency kit with tire chains, flashlight, batteries, blankets, food, water and medications.

For Roseburg, high temperatures will drop to the 40’s on Monday and Tuesday. Monday night will see lows in the low to mid 30’s.
