ROSEBURG SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR SUPERINTENDENT CORDON

On Wednesday, the Roseburg School Board approved a contract extension for Superintendent Jared Cordon.

A release said the board noted his “…exceptional leadership and numerous accomplishments in serving and supporting students in the Roseburg School District over the past five years”.

Following its annual superintendent evaluation, school board members unanimously voted to extend Cordon’s contract through June 30, 2027. The extension will go into effect July 1st.

Cordon began serving as superintendent in the 2019-20 school year. Under his guidance, the district has seen significant advancements in key areas that reinforce the district’s strategic plan to provide every student with the care, support and instruction needed to graduate from high school with plans for their most successful futures.

School Board Chair Rodney Cotton said, “Superintendent Cordon’s vision, dedication and tireless work have propelled our district forward, setting a standard of excellence that benefits not just our students, but our community as a whole”. Cotton said, “His abilities to lead with humanity, focus on collaboration, and drive for continuous improvement are exactly what our district needs to navigate the challenges of today’s educational landscape”.

The release said highlights of Cordon’s tenure include the pioneering P-20 Pathways partnership with Umpqua Community College. He has also overseen the introduction of innovative early literacy resources and programs intended to improve reading achievement for all students; the adoption of new English and math curricula; and updates to Special Education programs to more effectively serve students that are experiencing disabilities. The release said the implementation of a district-wide instructional framework also ensures that all teachers are supported in and following consistent best practices in addressing the individual needs of each student’s learning  experience.

Progress has also been made in the area of school safety and security including the following highlights:

*Installation of school campus perimeter fencing, secure front offices and visitor management to allow staff to control access to classrooms and other school facilities.

*Hiring of a district security officer team and partnerships with local law enforcement to secure the service of school resource officers.

*Ongoing efforts to secure grant funding for seismic rehabilitation for aging buildings

Cordon said, “It is truly a privilege and honor to serve our students, families, staff and community as superintendent of the Roseburg School District”.
