U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley has announced that there will be an in-person Town Hall in Douglas County on Saturday March 2nd.

This will kick off Merkley’s Town Hall Tour of Oregon, where he will hold community conversations for each of the state’s 36 counties.

Merkley said, “I hold a town hall for every Oregon county, every year because there is simply no substitute to hearing directly from folks about the ideas and priorities that matter most to them and their communities”. Merkley said, “Oregonian’s thoughts help shape my work in Congress, including positions on policies, ideas on bills and strategies for securing resources for every corner of the state”.

Merkley said over the course of the more than 540 town halls he has held since Oregonians sent him to the Senate, he has seen how these events provide respectful, safe places for people to express their unique points of view during what are often divisive times. Merkley said, “We all benefit significantly when we leave our comfort zone and open ourselves up to new ways of looking at issues – me included”.

The Douglas County event will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the main hall of the Southern Oregon Wine Institute at Umpqua Community College. Merkley will also have town halls that Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at Ashland High School, and at 3:00 p.m. at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass.
