PRESIDENT’S DAY CLOSURES LISTED

February 19, 2024 3:35 a.m.

Monday is President’s Day, also known as Washington’s Birthday and that means that there are some closures.

Federal, state, county and city offices are closed. Regular mail will not be delivered. School is not in session. Banks and credit unions are not open. Many professional offices are closed, while some remain open. Retails stores are largely operating as normal.

In 1879, the United States made George Washington’s February 22nd birthday a federal holiday. In 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Law changed the date to the third Monday in February. The position of the holiday between the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln on February 12th and Washington’s birthday gave rise to the use of the name President’s Day.
