NATURAL GAS PIPELINE REPLACEMENT PROJECT RESUMES

February 19, 2024 3:15 a.m.

The City of Roseburg Public Works Department wants residents to know that a natural gas pipeline replacement project has resumed.

Avista Utilities and contractor Michels Corporation are replacing aging natural gas mains in the public right-of-way, streets and alleys. Construction is expected to be completed by April 30th. To minimize traffic impacts to Roseburg residents and businesses, most work on arterial roads will take place overnight from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

The project will begin on Northwest Stewart Parkway at the entrance to Walmart and will continue south on Stewart Parkway to Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard, then go west on Garden Valley to Northwest Newcastle Street.

The pipe replacement is part of Avista’s 20-year natural gas replacement program that began in 2012. The program focuses on replacing Aldyl-A pipe that is 1.25 inches to 4 inches in diameter and was installed before 1987 or manufactured before 1985. Replacement is required for natural gas utilities across the country.
