Two people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle wreck on Tuesday evening.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 6:20 p.m. a Winston man was traveling southbound on Highway 99 North near Deady Crossing, approximately five miles south of Sutherlin, when he saw a large SUV going north. The second vehicle was hugging the center line but did not appear to be driving erratic or speeding, however it failed to steer with the contour of the corner.
The second vehicle then crossed over the center line and the first driver attempted to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful. The vehicles made contact on the front driver’s side quarter panel of the first vehicle which caused it to spin around and eventually come to rest in the middle of the roadway facing north. The SUV continued on its path across the southbound lane and came to rest in the ditch.
The occupants in the SUV were transported to an area hospital for medical care. One of them was later transported to an out of area hospital due to a brain bleed.
The incident remains under investigation by DCSO.
