February 1, 2024 4:20 a.m.

Roseburg had the warmest two days ever for the month of January, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury reached 69 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport on both days. Forecasters said that Chinook winds brought several hours of unseasonably warm air to the region starting late Tuesday.

The high for Tuesday was achieved at 11:59 p.m. while Wednesday’s high was recorded a short time later at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday’s high was originally reported as 64 degrees, which tied a record for the date, originally set in 2003. However, records were changed due to the unusual conditions later Tuesday. Wednesday’s high beat the previous record of 68 degrees, set 89 years ago in 1935.

The normal high temperature for Roseburg in late January is only 51 degrees. The forecast is calling for a mix of sunshine and showers for Thursday and Friday with highs in the low to mid 50.s
