HOYLE CONDEMNS HOUSE GOP ACTIONS ON IMMIGRATION

On Thursday U.S. 4th District Representative Val Hoyle released a statement in opposition to House Republican’s non-binding resolution – H. Res. 957 – relating to the southern border of the United States:

Hoyle said, “Every day this group of House Republicans talks about the crisis at the border and yet refuses to work toward a bipartisan solution to solve our broken immigration system. If they were serious about seeking real solutions, they would stop obstructing President Biden’s negotiations to enhance border security, including hiring additional law enforcement personnel to address increased migrant encounters at the southern border, and work in good faith to solve the problem”.\

Hoyle said instead House Republicans own government funding bills from last year included cuts to border security and immigration processing programs. Hoyle said, “They are so focused on denying the President a ‘win’ that they are blocking real, bipartisan immigration solutions that would actually address many border concerns – including border security, helping to stop fentanyl smuggling, and increasing staffing for immigration processing”.

Hoyle’s release said Congress had a chance to pass comprehensive immigration reform in 2008 and 2013 with significant funding for border security, but congressional Republicans walked away from the deal.

Hoyle said, “now they are doing it again”

Hoyle said Speaker Johnson said he doesn’t think Congress should pass comprehensive immigration reform because it’s too hard. Hoyle said, “We were elected to do the hard work to find solutions on behalf of the American people. I’m prepared to do this work and challenge my House Republican colleagues to stop whining and start working”. Hoyle said the safety and security of the country is too important to use as a political football. Hoyle said, “Americans need action and leadership. Mike Johnson is Speaker of the House, not just the Republican conference, and he should act like it”.
