A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 12:00 p.m. Tuesday to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday for mountain areas in southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said a wintery mix is expected with a mix of rain and snow along with periods of freezing rain or sleet on Tuesday. Snow is expected Tuesday night and Wednesday. Total snow accumulations of 6 inches expected, with moderate chances of 8 to 12 inches at higher elevations. Winds gusting as high as 55 miles per hour.

The Advisory area includes the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. The wintry mix is expected for areas from the Cascades crest eastward, including Highway 140 east of Lake of the Woods, Highway 62 from Crater Lake eastward, and Highway 138 north of Crater Lake. Moderate snow is expected late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening for areas around the Willamette Pass, Diamond Lake, Crater Lake and Lake of the Woods. Snow is forecast across portions of highways 140, 62, and 138.

Motorists should plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
