On Friday Republican State Representative Christine Goodwin released a statement regarding the upcoming meeting of the Joint Interim Committee on Addiction and Community Safety Response on Measure 110.
A release from the Oregon House Republican Caucus said the committee is expected to hear audit findings on Measure 110 and how the proliferation of drug use in Oregon is hurting youth, on Wednesday, January 10th.
Goodwin said, “This audit will likely show what Oregonians already know: Measure 110 has failed, and our youth suffer as a result. We need to get hard drugs off the streets by restoring criminal justice accountability, mandating treatment to avoid jail, and ensuring that promised funds for treatment and diversion actually make it to the counties, so they can address their needs”.
Goodwin said, “Unless we take these actions, the crises of drugs, crime, and homelessness will continue to worsen and our great state will continue its decline”.
Goodwin said, “The path forward to improving outcomes requires a commitment to long-term recovery services, not the continued enabling of fentanyl, heroin and meth use. More of the same will only lead to the same disastrous results we’ve seen since M110’s enactment”.
News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN will pursue an interview with Goodwin after this meeting has taken place, to get an update on the situation.
