Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a Roseburg man following alleged firearm violations, late Wednesday.
A DCSO report said at about 11:40 p.m. a deputy stopped a sedan for traffic violations near the intersection of Southeast Elliot Avenue and Southeast Gross Street in the Canyonville area. The deputy noticed that the driver, 46-year old Matthew Campbell, had a portion of a leather sheath or holster tucked under his jacket. Campbell reportedly said it was a knife before admitting that it was a firearm. The driver was determined to be prohibited from possessing firearms. The weapon was seized and determined to be a loaded Ruger Blackhawk .22mag.
Campbell was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a concealed firearm. He was cited for a violation count of driving while suspended and driving uninsured. Campbell was detained on $5,000 bail. He was released on Friday.
