OSP INVESTIGATES TWO-COMMERCIAL VEHICLE ACCIDENT EARLY WEDNESDAY

Troopers with the Oregon State Police investigated a two-commercial vehicle accident early Wednesday, which halted northbound freeway traffic for a time.

An OSP report said just after 3:00 a.m. a northbound commercial motor vehicle rear-ended another northbound commercial motor vehicle on Interstate Five, two miles north of the Scotts Valley/Elkhead exit. One semi went into the ditch while the other jackknifed, blocking traffic to both northbound lanes. No injuries were reported.

The first vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage to the to the tractor. The second vehicle sustained heavy damage to the rear of the semi-trailer. The driver who caused the collision stated that he fell asleep prior to the accident. He was issued a citation for careless driving.

North Douglas Fire and EMS assisted at the scene. Traffic was eventually able to proceed northbound on the shoulder. The roadway was partially reopened after the semi that blocked the road was pushed onto the shoulder. Interstate 5 north in that area was not fully reopened for a few hours.
