A Myrtle Creek man was hospitalized after a single vehicle accident early Saturday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just after 2:40 a.m. the 64-year old was driving northbound near the 200 block of North Old Pacific Highway in the Myrtle Creek area. His vehicle veered off the roadway and went approximately 100 feet down an embankment. His pickup came to a stop about 300 feet into a field.

The man was conscious and breathing but had injuries to his back. He had to be extricated from his vehicle by medical personnel. The man was ultimately transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for further treatment. The driver stated that he was tired and once he realized his vehicle was going off the roadway, it was too late to correct.

His pickup was towed away. County fencing was damaged in the accident and public works staff were notified.
