The Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators and the Oregon Coalition of Oregon School Administrators recently named Sutherlin High School Assistant Principal Sean Radford, the 2024 Oregon Assistant Principal of the year.
The COSA release said Radford has served in his current role at SHS for five years and in that time has made a big impact on the school community. Radford is said to be known for his steadfast commitment to the well-being and success of each student. At SHS, Radford leads the Freshman Success Data team with a focus on data-driven-decision-making and a commitment to fostering care and academic growth. Under his leadership, SHS has a remarkable 95 percent freshman on-track-to-graduate rate, and in the last two years an overall graduation rate of 90 percent.
The release said Radford has helped create a school climate that is both welcoming and engaging. This includes having fostered a partnership with Family and Relationship Advocates and becoming a certified Crisis Prevention Intervention trainer for the district. Radford has trained each teacher and instructional assistant from kindergarten through 12th grade in CPI, in an effort to ensure that all instructional staff are equipped with the skills needed to support students.
Superintendent Terry Prestianni said, “Sean Radford epitomizes all the Core Values established by our staff at Sutherlin School District”. Prestianni said, “In particular, he relentlessly seeks to assist students from every background to succeed both academically and in life. Mr. Radford is a great advocate for kids, a great staff member, and an even better husband and father. We are truly blessed to have him as part of our Sutherlin family”.
The award places Radford in the running for National Assistant Principal of the Year awarded by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Radford will be recognized at the COSA annual conference in Seaside in June and at the COSA’s principal’s conference in August.
